A chain is as strong as …? We have all learnt the metaphor that a chain is as strong as its weakest link.? Chain makers know this too.? They also know how to make things fool-proof.
This chain has been around for a very long time, and as you can see, someone, not me, has opened out the small hook in my right hand.? That clearly took some force and that is why there is a shackle there now.? No one is going to straighten out the large hook or break the chain, because the chain maker made sure that the small hook would always be the weakest part.
The chain, in fact, is always stronger than the environment that it operates in, it has to be.? And as often as I use this chain, and believe me it is not short and it is not light; I am reminded that we have to build our organizational systems to be stronger than the environment that they operate in.
